FTP servers have many uses. Transferring data from one computer to another and storing important files are just a few examples. Unfortunately, exploring a FTP server's contents on a web browser is not very comfortable. It is also pointless, especially when there are various FTP clients available on the Internet. EmFTP Professional provides the same functionality as most FTP clients, but it is much easier to use and it asks for very little disk space and memory. Simplicity and familiarity are its main features, which means that you can upload and download your files without any difficulties.

EmFTP Professional's installation file is roughly half a MB. The setup wizard will guide you through a standard procedure, which you may complete in a few seconds. You can use the software on Windows 2000 or later editions, up to Windows 7, in both 32 and 64-bit versions.

The user interface has a simple design, which makes it very easy to understand. You can explore data on your local hard drives or on a FTP server on separate panels. The software provides options for refreshing your folders, creating new ones or deleting data. Other options allow you to upload or download files, set the program to ASCII or binary mode or view and change a connection's properties.

You may connect to a FTP server right away, by typing its address and your log in credentials on a toolbar and clicking a Connect button. Alternatively, you can save one or more sets of connection configurations. A wizard will guide you through a few stages, during which you must provide the server's address, username and password or select an option to connect anonymously. You can also set the wizard to connect to a previously saved server or to import the necessary configurations from a third party application.

If you save a FTP server's settings, you only need to select the server from a pop-up menu and the program will establish the connection immediately. As previously stated, you can download and upload files with different options or by clicking and dragging the files, but you can also synchronize your data, from your hard drive to the server. If you start a synchronization process, the software will delete files, folders and sub-folders and upload new ones, to make the data structures on both panels identical.

Pros

You can browse through files and folders, just like on a standard explorer window. Local and remote files are displayed on separate panels and you can upload, download or synchronize data with just a few clicks. The software allows you to save the necessary configurations, for one or more servers. This makes it possible to establish a connection right away.

Cons

Data can be synchronized in a single direction. With EmFTP Professional, managing data on a FTP server will feel just like working on a local partition.
